The causes of mass fish kills in the Oder are being investigated independently by several institutions. One of the many verified hypotheses is the one that puts a large amount of industrial water into the river in the foreground. There are also suspicions that the situation has deteriorated due to weather conditions in the summer.
The discharge of excessive amounts of industrial water can contribute to an ecological disaster. In such a situation, it is a very important element conducting wastewater analysisthat end up in water reservoirs to avoid water pollution. Tests of various parameters are performed by accredited laboratories under the supervision of qualified specialists.
It is worth mentioning, however, that VIEP and CIEP regularly test water pH and conductivity. However, it is worth analyzing more parameters and being sure what is really in the water. Permissible concentration values are specified in the Regulation of the Minister of Infrastructure of June 25, 2021 on the classification of ecological status, ecological potential and chemical status and the method of classifying the status of surface water bodies, as well as environmental quality standards for priority substances (Journal of Laws 2021, item 1475).

Let us remember that what flows into the Oder or other watercourses is important for all of us and the entire ecosystem. A clean river is our better tomorrow. There is hope that conclusions will be drawn from the ecological catastrophe that occurred on the Odra river and specific decisions will be taken for the future, not only introducing continuous, wider monitoring of the environment by state authorities, but also introducing other measures to prevent similar situations from occurring, and in the event that they happen in the future - accelerating the response of relevant authorities to save the environment.
