Water and sewage tests – when are they necessary?

Water and sewage may contain various substances that are hazardous to the natural environment, human health and even life. Regular quality monitoring is one of the ways to avoid unfavorable consequences related to their incorrect composition. When water and sewage testing they are necessary? Who should perform them?

Water tests – when are they necessary?

For water to be safe for humans, it must have a specific composition. It cannot contain either parasites or pathogenic microorganisms, and the concentration of chemical compounds should not exceed an amount that would threaten the health or life of people drinking or using it. That's why water testing play such important roles – among others counteract epidemiological threats. However, to be an effective prevention tool, they must be performed systematically.

Regular physicochemical and microbiological tests should be subjected to mine.:

  • groundwater from wells and from borehole intakes and piezometers,
  • water in newly installed water supply connections,
  • water in swimming pools and bathing areas
  • water in catering and service outlets (e.g. restaurants and hairdressers),
  • technological waters,
  • surface waters.

Systematicity is not the only issue that should be taken care of when conducting water tests. Theirs is equally important quality. If done carelessly, they may give false results. Therefore, they should be carried out by qualified and experienced professionals.

How to conduct water tests?

Among the most important stages of water testing can be mentioned sample collection and transport to an accredited laboratory. If these activities are performed without due care, material contamination may occur. Therefore, water tests should be carried out by specialists. This is a guarantee of their appropriate quality.

At EkoMeritum we perform, among others: physicochemical and microbiological tests of groundwater and surface water. We carry out both basic and extended analyses – along with sampling. Therefore, we are able to adapt to your needs.

Wastewater tests – when are they required?

Even though as much as 99,8-99,9 percent of wastewater is water, it can pose a serious threat to the natural environment. They may also contain suspensions, heavy metals, microorganisms, surface-active and radioactive substances. For this reason, some of the entities that produce them must carry out periodic measurements quality and quantity of sewage discharged into water or land. Who is obliged to do this?

  1. Firstly, plants (including car washes, industrial plants) discharging industrial wastewater containing substances that are particularly harmful to the aquatic environment into a sewage system owned by another entity (e.g. municipal sewage system) as part of a special use of water.
  2. Secondly, natural persons, plants and sewage treatment plants that produce domestic or municipal sewage and discharge it into the environment, i.e. water or land, based on obtained water permits.

It happens that the entity must attach the results of wastewater quality and quantity tests to the report water law, in order for the Authority to verify that the holder of the water permit has fulfilled the obligations arising therefrom. Exceeding the permissible indicators in sewage or failure to perform tests may be the basis for refusing to issue a new water permit.

Do you need reliable water or sewage tests? Write to us or call us. At EkoMeritum, we have experience in both manual and mechanical (using an autosampler) sample collection. The results obtained in laboratory tests are provided by us carefully analyzed and interpretedand then sent to the client in the form of a report. So you receive a ready-made analysis that you can use, e.g. for reporting purposes.
