Almost every company in Poland must meet environmental obligations, including waste recording and waste generation control. The amount of waste generated or the size of the company itself is irrelevant. So what are the basic obligations of Polish companies? We outline them in the following article.
The most important environmental obligations of entrepreneurs
Environmental protection regulations are extensive and affect at least several aspects of a company's operations. Importantly, you must consider not only national standards but also European ones. Therefore, if you need comprehensive information on this topic, seek the help of specialists.
Our employees will answer all your questions on this topic and explain how your company should operate to avoid possible penalties for failure to meet its obligations. Below we present the most important environmental regulations and standards.
Registration with BDO
Registration in BWaste Data Center is one of the basic environmental obligations of Polish companies that produce non-municipal waste or introduce packaged products to the market.
Waste records should be kept electronically using the BDO system. It is also worth emphasizing that entrepreneurs are obligated to establish and maintain Waste Record Card (KEO), as well as issuing Waste Transfer Cards (KPO), on the basis of which the transport/transfer of waste is documented.
Proper waste management
This should include waste sorting, disposal, and collection. In many cases, companies collaborate in these areas with external companies specializing in one (or more) of the indicated areas.
Regardless of the method of operation, everything must be carried out in accordance with applicable regulations. In the event of violations, such as improper waste segregation, businesses must be prepared to face financial penalties.
Pollutant emissions – settlement with KOBiZE
Numerous regulations also govern emissions of pollutants into the air and groundwater. If a company generates suspended particulate matter, carbon monoxide, volatile organic compounds, or other pollutants as part of its operations, it is often required to conduct regular emissions measurements.
Most companies are also obliged to settle them within the framework of National Centre for Emission Balancing and Management (KOBiZE). We are talking about companies that use the environment and release pollutants into the air.
Water law permits
They must be obtained by, among others, entities collecting surface or underground water (water services), constructing water facilities (used for e.g.. water collection, sewage disposal or other types of use of the environment) or discharging sewage into water or ground and sometimes also into the sewage system.
This requires completing a number of formalities, which our experienced consultants can assist you with. They can ensure you meet all requirements under current law.
Monitoring of environmental obligations and professional consulting
Considering the principles discussed above, internal control within a company becomes crucial. It's important to appoint a person or persons to ensure that the company meets all standards and that the way key processes are implemented does not pose legal or financial risks.
Working with advisors who have knowledge and experience in environmental obligations will prove equally beneficial. They will be able to not only clarify any doubts that may arise, but also suggest optimal solutions that you can implement in your company.
This is a good way to avoid the potential threat of financial penalties, while also streamlining your business operations. Want to learn more? Call or write to us, and we'll present you with our full offer!
